Open Box Science
Making Science Open for the World
Our mission
Open Box Science (OBS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting open science and democratizing scientific training. The OBS grassroots community organizes free talks BY early-career scientists and OPEN to all around the world. Join us!
Our Story
Open Box Science (OBS) was born during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, when scientific exchange through traditional seminars and conferences came to a halt. A few early-career scientists invited first authors to talk about their recent publications through virtual Zoom seminars. Rather than keeping the zoom links private, they opened the seminars to audiences worldwide and were surprised to find participants joined from all over the world! Through these publicly-available talks, institutional and geographical boundaries that hindered open science were transcended. The OBS community has been consistently growing each day to include scientists from diverse backgrounds, enabling cross-disciplinary connections and broadening participants’ perspectives. In just over two years, OBS has hosted over 200 talks, providing quality and free content to our global audience that spans over 70 countries. The OBS community strives to continue promoting open scientific exchanges and democratizing science education.

Get Free Copy
Get Free Copy is a web-based search engine developed to aggregate and streamline biomedical literature searches across four major repositories: arXiv, bioRxiv, medRxiv, and PubMed Central (PMC). We made it because the exchange of scientific knowledge is often hindered by the expensive fees that scientists have to pay to read research publications. Our solution, Get Free Copy, addresses this by offering a responsive, user-friendly search engine that combines search results of free, legitimate copies of research papers.
